Website Christians Against Poverty New Zealand

About CAP

CAP is a not-for-profit organisation, bringing hope and help to families who are trapped in debt and poverty across Aotearoa.

Every month, CAP receives hundreds of phone calls from New Zealanders who are drowning in unmanageable debt. It consumes more than they have to give, and families are forced to sacrifice living essentials to pay their creditors. Our free, professional Debt Help service enables clients to repay their debt using their own income, and work towards a better future. As with all of CAP’s services, Debt Help is delivered in partnership with local churches, allowing clients to receive holistic care as they journey out of debt.

These free services are made possible by the thousands of supporters who make regular and one-off donations, and the fundraising team is responsible for driving the acquisition, cultivation and retention of these supporters.

About this role

Reporting to the Fundraising Manager, the Supporter Engagement Coordinator works closely alongside the Supporter Experience Lead on CAP’s day-to-day supporter relations tasks to help build lasting relationships with new and existing supporters. This role ensures accuracy of donations, reporting, and increasing essential one-off and regular funding. It also oversees key daily donation processes and holds a pivotal role in data management, analysis and reporting to ensure we are connecting with supporters in the best way possible.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and responding to supporter correspondence and enquiries, ensuring the best possible donor experience
  • Maintaining the donor journey to ensure CAP builds lasting relationships with supporters by analysing data to develop strategies to deepen engagement
  • Reducing donor attrition rates by achieving donor restart targets, and strategising new initiatives to reduce regular giving stops
  • Supporting the fundraising team in a wide range of fundraising activities, including events, campaigns and appeals
  • Maintaining accurate supporter data and interactions, pulling data for donor campaigns, and ensuring a high level of data integrity

About you

Full training will be provided, so while experience in a fundraising or not-for-profit environment is preferred, this is not essential. What is essential is someone with the right soft skills and attitudes, including:

  • Teamwork and collaboration – creating and encouraging team spirit, and working together to achieve the greater purpose
  • Resilience – the determination to persevere and give your best, even when faced with pressure or frustration
  • Attention to detail – the ability to follow process and maintain a high level of data integrity to ensure donors receive the best possible experience
  • Influencing skills – excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to connect with people and inspire others to take action

You will also need to be comfortable in a Christian environment reflecting a range of faith expressions, and be supportive of CAP’s objects, including the goals of alleviating poverty and promoting the Christian Gospel.

Check out the Job Description for a detailed outline of the role, as well as the skills, abilities, and attributes we are looking for.
