Website Elevate Christian Disability Trust
Bringing hope, encouragement and belonging for 50 years
For fifty years Elevate Christian Disability Trust has been encouraging and empowering people with disabilities, through our regional groups, camps, Auckland Centre, church support and publications. We are passionate about seeing people with disability and their whānau leading, contributing, growing and belonging, in Christian and local communities around New Zealand.
We are looking for someone to join our faith-based organisation and further develop a new programme for young adults with cognitive disabilities.
Are you passionate about seeing young people with disability forming connections with their communities, further developing skills and growing in confidence?
Do you have experience facilitating programmes, activities, or teaching people with disabilities?
We are seeking someone to facilitate and further develop a recently started programme on Thursdays at our Centre in Onehunga, Auckland, for young people with cognitive disabilities. The programme includes opportunities to practice life skills, try new things, volunteer with local community groups, learn about God and connect with other young people with disability.
The position requires working onsite at our Centre in Onehunga, Auckland.
Key Tasks:
- Facilitate nine weeks of programme content per term, one day a week (extending to two days when demand increases), for youth with primarily cognitive disabilities.
- Plan nine weeks of programme content per term, including coordinating community volunteering opportunities for the youth and interactive programme sessions around a term theme. Programme content will encourage and support the development of life-skills, exploring the Christian faith, creative expression, engaging with the community, building friendships and caring for our own wellbeing.
- Work with the Centre Manager to manage and develop group attendees and volunteers.
- Build relationships with attendees and volunteers.
The role is a permanent part-time position, 12 hours per week (with the intention of the hours increasing in 2027).
There is opportunity to combine this role with another part-time role in our Support Office.
