Advocacy Campaigns Specialist
Part-time (0.8 FTE); Permanent
At Tearfund, we believe God calls us to care for people experiencing poverty and injustice, and to challenge the systems that keep them there. Alongside our fundraising work, we engage in advocacy to influence the decisions, practices and policies of those in power so that the root causes of poverty can be addressed and justice can grow.
Tearfund engages Kiwis in financial generosity to support Tearfund’s development initiatives delivered by local partners in communities facing issues of poverty, scarcity, disempowerment and injustice. Our work spans modern slavery, human trafficking, child development, farming and enterprise and humanitarian response.
We are looking for an Advocacy Campaigns Specialist to help turn advocacy priorities into clear, compelling public campaigns and supporter engagement activities. This is a practical, hands-on role for someone who is organised, a strong communicator and motivated by justice. You will work closely with the Head of Advocacy to help deliver campaigns that inform, inspire and mobilise Tearfund supporters, churches and the wider public.
About the role:
This role supports the delivery of Tearfund’s advocacy work through strong coordination, content development, stakeholder engagement, research support and cross-team collaboration.
Some of the key areas you will work on include:
·      Coordinating and delivering Tearfund’s public-facing advocacy campaigns
·      Developing campaign messaging, planning and delivery
·      Writing campaign content and materials across channels including email, web, articles and supporter communications
·      Helping keep advocacy communications clear, engaging and current across Tearfund’s supporter-facing channels
·      Building and maintaining positive relationships with relevant external organisations, coalitions and stakeholders
·      Preparing background research, summaries and draft materials to support advocacy priorities
·      Supporting speaking engagements and representing Tearfund externally when appropriate
·      Working across Tearfund to help ensure advocacy activity is well integrated and well executed
About you:
We are looking for someone with strong potential in this space. You may already have advocacy or campaigns experience, or you may bring transferable skills from communications, public engagement, community development, public affairs or a related field.
What will matter most is that you bring:
·      Strong writing and communication skills
·      Good organisation and project coordination skills
·      The ability to manage multiple moving pieces and follow through well
·      Sound judgement, initiative and attention to detail
·      The ability to build positive relationships and work well with others
·      A genuine interest in justice and the issues Tearfund works on
·      Alignment with Tearfund’s mission, values and Christian identity
It would also be helpful if you bring some of the following:
·      Around two or more years’ experience in advocacy, campaigns, communications, public engagement, project coordination or a related field
·      Experience writing content for public or supporter audiences
·      Experience in media, digital communications or public affairs
·      Experience working in the charitable, international development or social impact sector
·      Interest in issues such as modern slavery, human trafficking, worker exploitation, ethical consumption or climate justice
·      Confidence speaking to groups or representing an organisation in public settings
Why join Tearfund?
This is a chance to help turn justice issues into clear, compelling action and contribute to lasting change. You will help shape campaigns that invite people to act for justice and stand with communities experiencing poverty and injustice.
We offer:
·      The opportunity to contribute to an organisation bringing hope to vulnerable communities around the world
·      A role with room to learn, grow and take on more responsibility over time
·      Flexible working arrangements, with remote, hybrid and office-based options depending on location and candidate preference
·      Free car parking
·      Free health insurance
·      An extra day off at Christmas and on your birthday
We know great candidates do not always match every line of a job ad. If this role feels like a strong fit for your skills, values and aspirations, we’d still love to hear from you, even if you do not tick every box. That includes people with transferable experience, people returning to work, and people who may need some flexibility around hours or location.
