The New Zealand Catholic Medical Association (NZCMA) was founded in 2019 with the support of the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference. It aims to support medical practitioners, drawing on the treasures of our faith, especially in regard to the ethical challenges of healthcare today.

A chaplain will help guide us in faith development as we learn and reflect on our calling and vocation. We hope to support one another, develop networks and provide practical resources for members. In time we would also like to form links with our colleagues in neighbouring Pacific nations.

The inaugural meeting in Auckland was held on the 25th of May and included the celebration of Mass, the opportunity for reconciliation and an opening blessing from Bishop Patrick Dunn. Our next meeting is in Christchurch on the 21st of September.

Our meetings are open to all those who work in healthcare or in roles which support healthcare such as administration or health leadership. While there is particular emphasis on supporting doctors, we also wish to extend an invitation to nurses, midwives, pharmacists, physiotherapist, counsellors, social workers, chaplains, dentists, health administrators, lawyers, medical students and anyone who works in allied roles.
