About this role
This is an exciting part-time opportunity to join the mainly music NZ Trust team as a permanent Session Facilitator at Arohata Prison. You will be leading weekly mainly music sessions with the support of another Session Facilitator. The sessions aim to build attachment between mātua and tamaiti, as well as develop tamariki educationally.
What you will be doing
- Facilitate weekly mainly music sessions, leading waiata and rhymes that provide educational benefits for tamariki
- Using prepared sessions, responding to observations and modifying the experience for whānau, ensuring engagement and educational outcomes are increased
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for whānau to participate and connect
- Maintain records and provide feedback on session attendance and participant engagement
Who we are looking for
- Someone who wants to bring delight and joy into the lives of whānau
- A desire to be part of a team working with whānau experiencing vulnerability
- Experience working with tamariki under 5 is an advantage
- Experience in education or community work would be helpful
- Someone who is comfortable using reo Māori and singing waiata
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Comfortable with technology
- A willingness to learn
- Own reliable transport and a suitable driver’s licence
What we offer
5 permanent hours a week to be used as follows:
- Run weekly mainly music sessions
- Attend scheduled meetings on Wednesdays at 1:00 pm
- Preparation
Depending on your availability, there is potential for other mainly music sessions which would then increase the hours offered for this role.
