Sports Chaplaincy New Zealand is seeking an energetic and motivated Regional Leader Waikato / Bay of Plenty to lead and grow our ministry across one of New Zealand’s most diverse and vibrant regions.

The role covers a large geographical area extending from Taupō and Gisborne southwards through the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions, north to Huntly, including the Coromandel Peninsula.

About the Role

As Regional Leader, you will champion Sports Chaplaincy New Zealand’s vision of a placed Sports Chaplain for every sports community. You will work alongside sporting organisations, churches, volunteers, supporters, and community leaders to develop and strengthen Sports Chaplaincy throughout the region.

This role combines leadership, relationship building, volunteer development, strategic planning, and ministry engagement.

Key responsibilities include:

Growing and supporting Sports Chaplaincy across the region
Identifying and developing relationships with sports organisations, churches, and community stakeholders
Recruiting, training, appointing, and supporting Sports Chaplains
Building and leading a regional network of volunteers and supporters
Partnering with churches to strengthen local engagement in sports communities
Contributing to regional planning, growth strategies, and sustainability goals
Representing Sports Chaplaincy New Zealand within the region
Maintaining effective administration, communication, and reporting systems
About You

You will bring:

Exceptional relationship-building and networking skills
Experience leading volunteers, teams, or community initiatives
Strong communication and organisational abilities
Confidence working independently and remotely
An understanding of New Zealand’s diverse communities and cultures
Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Teams
A passion for serving people within sporting environments

Experience within sport, ministry, community leadership, chaplaincy, or church leadership will be highly regarded. As this is a faith-based ministry role, applicants must be comfortable working within and advancing Sports Chaplaincy New Zealand’s Christian mission and values.
