Bethlehem College is a co-educational, Christian area school (Years 1–13) committed to Excellence through Christ. We are seeking an experienced and capable educational leader to join our Secondary Leadership Team as Assistant Head of Secondary.

 

This is a significant leadership opportunity for a relational, faith-driven educator who is committed to shaping a Christ-centred learning environment and contributing to the strategic and day-to-day leadership of a thriving secondary school.

The Role

The Assistant Head of Secondary works closely with the Head of Secondary and SLT to:

  • Lead and support staff to deliver high-quality teaching and learning
  • Strengthen systems, processes, and organisational effectiveness
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, growth, and shared responsibility
  • Support the holistic development and welfare of students and staff
  • Contribute to strategic planning and long-term school improvement
  • Oversee staff development,  performance management, and professional growth to support continuous improvements
  • Act on behalf of the Head of Secondary when required and upholding responsibility for agreed portfolios, systems, and operational leadership

This role requires a leader who can balance operational clarity with relational leadership, and who is confident making decisions aligned with the College’s vision and values.

You will demonstrate:

  • A deep, authentic Christian faith and commitment to Christian education
  • Appropriate teaching qualification and current NZ Teaching Council Registration
  • Proven leadership capability within a secondary school context
  • Strong organisational, systems and data-informed leadership capability
  • The capacity to lead change, while maintaining relational trust
  • A commitment to developing both staff and student leadership
  • Alignment with the College’s mission, vision, and special character
