The Role
CATAS provides accounting services to hundreds of churches, community trusts and other faith-based charities all around New Zealand. We specialise in delivering cost-effective and professional financial services including, annual financial performance reports, processing GST returns, preparing monthly financial management reports, Xero system setups, and providing ongoing accounting support and advice throughout the year.
We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant to join our team. As an Accountant, you will be responsible for producing accurate financial reports, filing GST returns, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting a portfolio of charities with their accounting needs.
This is a great role for someone looking to apply their skills and experience in a meaningful way, while having the flexibility to work from home and set their own schedule.
Location
We are looking for candidates in the Auckland or Hamilton area. The role is work-from-home based, with the option to work from a mutually agreed-upon location, provided there is a reliable internet connection.
Hours and Days of Work
20 hours per week initially, with the expectation this can grow over time by agreement. The role is outcome-focused, offering flexibility in the hours and days you work each week to suit your schedule. However, availability during weekdays and normal business operating hours will be required to assist clients and attend CATAS team meetings.
Key responsibilities
– Preparing annual financial performance reports, covering NFP Tier 2 – 4 standards
– Producing monthly or quarterly financial management reports
– Preparing GST Returns and filing with the IRD
– Providing advice, help, and support to clients as needed
– Assisting with ad hoc client requests
– Filing annual returns with Charities Services
– Updating systems to ensure accurate client information
– Providing an accurate record of work carried out for clients

In 2005, CATAS was founded as an independent not-for-profit charitable company, by the Baptist Union of
New Zealand. We recognised that many churches and church-related trusts were struggling with financial management and reporting. To meet this need, we created a professional, cost-effective accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll service firm dedicated to the faith-based charitable sector.
We have a team of 6 accountants, 2 bookkeepers, and 5 payroll administrators. Over 350 churches and Christian charities from all over NZ make up our client base. This includes Anglican, ACTSNZ, AOG, Baptist, C3, Catholic, CCCNZ, Elim, Lutheran, New Life, Presbyterian, Reformed, Vineyard, independent churches, early learning centres, and community trusts.
