PACT is seeking a male Community Youth Worker for a casual role supporting tamariki and rangatahi aged 7–18 across South Auckland.
This role responds to changing school and community needs, with hours varying week to week. It includes school-based mentoring, after-school support, and involvement in selected PACT programmes.
About the role
You will work alongside tamariki and rangatahi in school and community settings, building trusted relationships and supporting positive engagement, wellbeing, and development.
The role includes mentoring individuals and small groups, supporting young people within PACT programmes, and at times delivering or supporting classroom-based sessions in secondary school settings. You will need to be confident engaging groups of students in a way that is relational, credible, and interactive.
You will play an important role in helping young people grow in confidence, strengthen relationships, and navigate challenges in healthy ways, while contributing to safe and positive spaces where they can thrive.
Faith and values
PACT is a Christian organisation, and this role includes supporting the spiritual development of young people where appropriate. You will be expected to uphold and model Christian values, contribute to a positive faith-informed team culture, and help connect rangatahi with opportunities for spiritual growth in ways that align with their journey and whānau context.
Key responsibilities
- Provide school-based and after-school mentoring support
Support tamariki and rangatahi within PACT programmes. - Build strong relationships with young people, whānau, schools, and community partners.
- Support emotional regulation, confidence, and positive behaviour.
- Be a consistent, positive male role model.
- Deliver or support engaging classroom-based sessions in schools.
- Contribute to safe group environments that encourage participation, respect, and belonging.
- Work collaboratively with PACT staff and maintain appropriate case notes.
- Assist with transport where needed.
We’re looking for someone who
- Has experience working with young people in a paid or volunteer role.
- Relates naturally to tamariki and rangatahi and builds trust easily.
- Can engage groups confidently and communicate clearly.
- Is flexible and responsive to changing needs.
- Holds a full driver’s license.
- Is available at least two days per week during school hours, with some after-school availability.
- Has strong connections to, or understanding of, South Auckland communities.
- Is comfortable working within a Christian organisation.
- A qualification in youth work, social services, education, or a related field is highly desirable, but relevant experience and the right fit are equally important.
