Job Title: Youth Pastor
Youth ages: 11–16-year-olds
Hours: 5 per week @ $28.00 per hour
Organisation: Welcome Bay Community Church (WBCC)
The Place of Work: Flexible Location
The employee shall perform his/her duties at the Welcome Bay Community Church, 340 Welcome Bay Rd, Tauranga, from his/her residence, and at such other places as are necessary for the proper performance of his/her duties.
Accountability: Pastors and Leadership Team
The employee will be directly responsible to the Pastors (Frank & Aimee Sharplin) for spiritual and ministry guidance AND to the Leadership Team for overall support and accountability.
General Expectations:
- To create a welcoming, fun, and safe environment for youth to grow their relationship with God and others.
- To disciple youth through Biblical teaching appropriate to their development stage.
- To develop and maintain good relationships with the youth of the church and their parents.
- Build and train a team of volunteers to help facilitate the youth programme.
- To develop and maintain relationships with other youth pastors/leaders and ministries in the community.
- Attend Sunday services.
- Attend Leadership meetings every third month.

- A mature Christian who has a growing relationship with Jesus and agrees with our church beliefs and values (https://wbcc.org.nz/about-us/).
- A passion for youth and sense of calling to work with them.
- Good people skills – maintaining relationships with parents and relating to youth in a caring and compassionate manner and able to effectively handle conflict.
- Leadership ability, including competence in developing volunteer leaders and mobilising teams.
- Well organised and able to work with a budget.
- Good communicator.
- Team player.
Key Responsibilities:
- Weekly Youth Programme (Ignition Youth) – Facilitate weekly youth programme where youth can learn about Jesus, His Word, be discipled, and have fun.
- Sunday service – Attend Sunday services to develop and maintain relationship with youth and their parents, and to engage with any visiting youth and their parents.
- Administration – Plan youth programme, and communicate plans to youth, parents, and youth leaders. Manage youth email address, youth Facebook account, and youth budget. Plan other youth events – i.e. camps or other activities. Maintain relevant H&S protocols and develop new protocols when necessary. Attend Leadership meeting (every third month).
- Community – Develop/maintain relationships with key people in the community, e.g. other youth pastors, community workers (community centre, social services), etc. Â
